On November 1-2, 2018 in Moscow the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Center for African Studies of the University of Porto hold the “Elections in Africa” Conference which is to become the inaugural Conference in the series of jointly organized biannual conferences under the umbrella title of “Internal Changes and Foreign Policy of African Countries.” The Conference will take place on the premises of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The working languages are Russian, Portuguese, English, and French.
The Organizing Committee would like to encourage you to submit paper abstracts, focusing on the Conference topic. The deadline for paper abstract submission is April 15, 2018. The information to be submitted alongside with the proposal includes the prospective papergiver(s)’ full name(s), institutional affiliation(s), full mail and e- mail addresses, telephone number. The Organizing Committee that consists of members of both organizing institutions, will be glad to consider any paper proposal (within 500 words in English or both English and Russian) received before deadline. None of the proposals may be accepted or rejected on the basis of its submitter(s)’ previous academic credentials, ethnic or national origin, sex, or otherwise, but only on the basis of the proposal’s relevance to, and importance for, the Conference’s general theme. However, the Organizing Committee will have to be very rigorous and selective, as far as the Conference is planned to be not so huge in the number of participants – several dozen people, including the Conference Series founding institutions members.
The Organizing Committee will inform the applicants about the results of their panel proposals’ consideration not later than on June 15, 2018. The Organizing Committee reserves for itself the right to create panels basing on papers’ thematic proximity and to propose some participants to combine the role of papergiver with that of panel convenor. Submission of a panel proposal by a prospective Conference participant may also be possible, if such a submission is accompanied by paper abstracts and personal particulars (full names, institutional affiliations, full mail and e-mail addresses, telephone numbers) of at least three more panel participants.
In the case a Conference participant needs a Russian entry visa, the Organizing Committee will contact him or her by July 1, 2018, informing on what information it will demand in order to support the visa application process at a Russian Consulate or Embassy.
The Conference registration fee in Russian rubles, equivalent to $150 ($75 in rubles for accompanying persons, for students, and for citizens of African states residing in Africa except South Africa), is to be paid in cash onsite upon arrival. The Conference participants working for the Conference organizing institutions and their official partners are waved from registration fee.* No accompanying persons can be waved from registration fee. Please, note that the Organizing Committee has no means for financial support of any Conference participants.
