Topics. We would like to specifically invite authors to consider submitting papers on the following themes:
Diversity, equity, access, and inclusion in the field of glass and ceramics conservation, across the globe and in respective countries and cultures: Is your work advancing these goals? Do you have ideas for how glass and ceramics conservation practice can change/evolve/contribute? We’d love to hear about it.
Sustainability within our profession: Have you undertaken projects that advance environmental sustainability? Sustainability of ourselves and the profession?
Online teaching and virtual learning: A global pandemic has pushed us to re-think teaching and hosting internships; if you have innovative solutions to share, please do.
Modern and contemporary glass and ceramics: There are many challenges specific to the conservation and care of modern and contemporary glass and ceramic collections. We want to foster communication among those working in this arena and help share their research.
Adhesives and consolidants and loss compensation for glass and ceramics conservation: Always an area of interest for research and innovation: what are recent advances you can tell us about?
Standards of preventive care, particularly for glass collections: Every collection is unique, and each has its own set of limitations and challenges; the more we share, the more we can advance our collective understanding of “best practices.”
Glass deterioration: Any exciting developments in how we can assess stages and mechanisms of deterioration?
We will also feature a dedicated Student Session. Students currently enrolled (or enrolled at the time of this announcement) in a conservation training program are invited to submit abstracts for this session. Selected student contributions will be published in the proceedings as extended abstracts.

Venue
The conference will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, in a hybrid format, with options for both in-person and online attendance and presentation. This is a new format for our Working Group, and we are thrilled to expand our reach and increase access to the glass and ceramics conservation community. We will be monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic carefully, and the in-person option and specific venue will be confirmed as soon as possible.
